New Season, Familiar Feeling!

Transfer

Here we are three days before the 2015/2016 season begins.  Usually I am like a kid at Christmas the week before the new season starts,  the optimism, anticipation and excitement traditionally takes over any rational view-point.

Unfortunately this season I literally have no optimism, no excitement and only anticipation I have is of disappointment come Saturday tea time.  I hate feeling like this about my beloved Blues but this summer has turned my normal ‘cup half full’ philosophy to one of negativity.

Rewind your minds back to last season and the huge flaws within our squad.  Football is a simple game.  Our main issues last season in the league and both domestic cup completions were; we didn’t create or score enough goals and conceded far too many at the back.  Once the season had finished, like many Blues I was hoping that the Manager and Club would go out any solve these issues.

Although we did some excellent early business, brining Tom Cleverley and Gerard Deulofeu to the club we still haven’t rectified outstanding concerns.  We have been crying out for a new keeper, left winger a No.10 who can play between the lines and open up defences, as well as another striker to not only push Lukaku but also have the ability to play alongside the big Belgian.  To make matters worse we have released both senior back up CB’s and haven’t replaced either of them.

Fast forward to last Sunday and Big Duncan’s testimonial, although a great occasion, it brought back the fear I have for this season.  The season hasn’t begun and we are looking so threadbare already.  The manager confirming Stones and Mirallas were brought off for precautionary measures.  Even so, we now currently have NINE separate injuries to first team players.  Positive news did follow the match though, with Martinez stating he is looking to bring in three players, a CB, No.10 and CF.  Why it has taken him this long to work this out, god only knows?!  At least he is looking at brining players in, we need fresh faces ASAP.  Lets just hope the board supports him.

Personally I would love us to be ambitious enough and bring in Charlie Adam from QPR and Kagawa from Borussia Dortmund.  Both players have Premier League experience and both have lived in the North West, meaning settling in periods would be minimal.  As far as a CB is concerned I hope Martinez is looking at Aleksander Dragovic at Kiev.  He was excellent in both Europa League games last season.  I was especially impressed when he appeared at Goodison, his performance limited us to only two goals on the night instead of the four or five we should’ve got.  Finally I also believe that we will be looking to bring Aaron Lennon back to the club, a deal that will be done close to the transfer deadline.

As it stands on Saturday we could well have Barry starting at CB with Kone up front and Barkley and Naismith occupying wide roles.  So much for rectifying issues from last season as the line up Saturday could well mirror the side who struggled to fight their way out of a paper bag last season. I hope I’m wrong!

Moving on to Saturday’s game.  Make no bones about it, it is huge!  We need a fast start and nothing less than a win is acceptable.  We need three points as the next 9 games that follow will be tough to say the least.

I hope and pray we get off to a winning start, sign some players and start brining the feel good factor back to the club.

Come on you Blues!
